KAVIAR GAUCHE AW 14/15
On Tuesday evening, the label KAVIAR GAUCHE celebrated its 10th anniversary. For this purpose, the designers Alexandra Fischer – Roehler and Johanna Kühl had chosen “Goya” as the venue, located in West Berlin and primarily known for the questionable OB 40 parties. “Celebrate Love” was the motto. I met Johanna Kühl prior to the show and asked a few questions. What are the key elements, what the dandy look has to do with bridal-wear and what materials are used in the collection, read it here:
WHAT IS THE VISION OF THE NEW AW 14/15 COLLECTION ?
We were thinking; it is now our 10th anniversary, what can we do? We did not want to make an archive show, but get to a point where recent years would be represented. We decided to focus on the core elements of Kaviar Gauche, which are; the bride and everything related to the topic love. We want to celebrate love and have created a transition to bridal wear. We have very little bridal fashion in the collection this time. Furthermore, the masculine in the woman is a part of the collection, “dandy” is the keyword.
HAS THE VISION CHANGED DURING THE PROCESS, OR WAS IT ALL THE TIME CLEAR?
In the beginning it is switching very much. That is when you think; what should the collection actually be. Until that is clear, many ideas are being developed and I would say only half of them will be finalised.
YOU JUST SAID, “DANDY STYLE” NEXT TO “CELEBRATE LOVE”, A FURTHER VISION AND INSPIRATION OF THE COLLECTION. HOW COULD YOU BRING BOTH MORE CLEAR ON ONE POINT ?
We like to bring together the feminine and masculine. For example, we use masculine flat shoes worn with evening dresses. We wanted real men’s shoes and fortunately it worked well, we were not so sure if it would at first.
WHERE ARE THE SHOES FROM?
The shoes are made in collaboration with a shoe manufacturer. They have standard models that you then can design yourself. Everything you will see in the show, is designed by us. In the future, you will be able to purchase them in our store in Berlin or on our online-store.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN MATERIALS YOU HAVE WORKED WITH IN THIS COLLECTION ?
We have used the typical Kaviar Gauche materials. We dropped the the lazer-cut’s this season (laughs). However, we have focused on lace, floral elements, chiffon and silk. We have also used materials that we have used less in the past, as different wool fabrics. And feathers, much couture inspired elements.
