Long Weekend’s are the best to crawl up on your couch and watch movies, but they also include a lot of eating.  To prevent an increase of  body fat during the approaching holiday we thought of different ways of burning calories. And to our surprise we found out; you can actually burn calories while watching horror movies.

There are some unforeseen physical and mental benefits to horror film – such as an increased cognitive reaction time to stress situations, or even the burning of calories from your couch.

Watching horror movies is more a feel-good experience than you’d think – the brain releases dopamine, serotonin, and glutamate to get your adrenalin pumping. Interestingly, this combo of chemicals has a similar effect to anesthesia, bring both stress and anxiety down while bringing your mood up.

Next time you want to skip the gym, curl up to one of the following ten horror movies. Horror films were shown to significantly increase diet-induced thermogenesis (the increase in your energy expenditure above your standard metabolic rate) in a small study.
