BACKSTAGE: PERRET SCHAAD S/S 15
Everyone who works in fashion knows that fashion weeks can be stressful and incredibly challenging; coffees to-go, fast snacks and the rushing from show to show and from event to event is an inevitable part of the game. The tight agenda is clearly not what provokes the excited and fast heart beats – it is the irreplaceable moments when aesthetics and visions collide into perfection and the tough work suddenly makes sense.
It is clear that the designers behind Perret Schaad created one of those golden blood-rushing moments. The designers Johanna Perret and Tutia Schaad had decided to show their collection inside the beautiful garden with almost neon-green grass of Kronprinzenpalais – a bold move in the days of these forever-changing weather forecasts of German summer. It underlined the overall expression of the Perret Schaad woman: bold, powerful, caring and sexy.
“I think that from the very beginning we wanted to show outside the official tent. It was always one of our dreams to show outside in the open air, especially for a summer collection, to have all the different cottons and silks outside. It would have been nice as well if it had been super windy. You never know. Even through the presentation the sun was shining and then the sky turned cloudy, which made the atmosphere change. We are very happy.”
In 1855 the English poet Robert Browning wrote the famous phrase Less is more. Just a short glance at Perret Schaad’s SS15 collection confirms that these words are still relevant for today as well as for our near future. The designers understand the art of creating simple pieces of clothes that will make every woman radiate their inner glow instantly. Focusing on draping, a fundamental key-word of their vision, they combine strong materials as cobalt blue, grass-green and champagne-coloured silk with elegant pieces in shining white and delicate rose.
“We are specialized in colour, even in our collections that are more harmonic and subtler. The colours are very important to us; it is what we start with on every collection parallel with choosing materials. From our colour choice we develop the theme for the collection. Colours inspire us.”
“Colours are also a big challenge for us, because we use them a lot. It is quite fun. It is a cool part to try to go from extremes to more subtle outfits and try hardcore combinations. Sometimes we find our combinations really cool, but also very ugly at the same time – that is interesting.”
Perret Schaad proves to us that it is possible to create clothes with strong, powerful cuts that still indicate confidence and comfort – and most important of all: fit a woman’s body.
“We know a lot of our clients because we do this private-order thing, which we have done for three or four years now. Everyone has different kind of bodies, young or old and different looks. We think a lot about women.”
”We have learned a lot since we started – we have learned how different a silhouette can be. People measure in S, M or L but every woman has a different proportion and it is very interesting to think and work around it.
It is clearly a collection that will suit you whether you will be sipping Prosecco on a boat at Lago di Garda or rule the trashy streets of Berlin.
“We want to make a woman feel natural, elegant and cool. We think that every woman can achieve that.”
