Opening Ceremony X Adidas

My Future Ex-Boyfriend
“Taking into account the increased growth of collaborations taking place between both the sports and fashion industries, the complex and diverse relationship between the two industries has merged and is finding a balanced harmony. Both industries have heavily influenced each other over the past few years, especially witnessed on the catwalks & through designer/sports brand collaborations.” – WGSN Sports editor Lucesca Holmes
 .
A still ongoing trend, which now shows many different appearances is the sports influence in fashion. Athletic inspired pieces are popping up on all the international runway’s, blowing the trend barometers. The meeting between sportswear and fashion is not just a fling, it’s gaining it’s own style movement. Sportswear has influenced fashion throughout history, like Coco Chanel’s use of jersey and through the masculine tomboy look; a pair of loose jersey pants, t-shirt and a cool cap. For Spring – Summer 2014 the sport influences are translated into a more feminine look which shows clean, minimal and elaborate elements in this trend.
.
Looking at the different collaborations this season we see multiple sportswear brands working together with high-fashion names. Striking for Spring – Summer 2014 is the collection of Opening Ceremony and Adidas.
 .
The collection is inspired by two sports; baseball and taekwondo. A combination that gives a thrilled new twist on the sports influence in fashion. The inspiration is recognizable and fused with the solid elements from the Adidas Originals archive and the free-spirited Opening Ceremony aesthetic. The baseball inspired elements as badges, ribbed hems, oversize branding and enamel buttons are dominating the collection. And as a counterbalance to the American influence, they reinterpret design elements from Taekwondo uniforms, lightweight knits, cropped bustier tops, jumpsuits and variety jackets including the details such as the quilted belt.

.

The garments are balancing on a blurry line between fashion and sports. To dress in it is not only a matter of a look, but also a behavior. Who you are is always reflected in what you wear in my opinion. The allover key piece for Spring – Summer 14, the boxy bomber, almost at the status like it’s the new print t-shirt, a hipster essential. In this collection it is the navy colored Baseball Varsity Jacket which is my new craving and would look perfect with my Stan’s.

.

The adidas Originals x Opening Ceremony capsule collection will be available at select boutiques and e-commerce retailers starting on January 31st with the baseball styles followed by the taekwondo styles on March 15th.
