CPH FASHION WEEK: Veronica B. Vallenes
The Palm Court at the legendary Hotel d’Angleterre in the very center of Copenhagen – extravagant, luxurious and oozing of femininity; the perfect location for the originally Norwegian designer to show her AW15 collection. I Love You Magazine got the chance to meet the inspiring woman after her show had successfully completed.
Bright colours, the thinnest leather, alpaca wool and the most beautiful cuts brought together in a chic symphony. The designer has a reason to be happy and relieved – it feels like she has found her way back to her true, sophisticated, yet powerful DNA. She is one of the designers that have jumped on the wave of the 70ies style that has influenced most of the collections during Copenhagen Fashion Week, but in her very own way.
“I wanted this collection to be sophisticated from the cuts to the materials. Materials of good quality mean a lot when wearing the pieces. I wanted to bring the 70ies into my collection but in a modern way. D’Angleterre felt like the perfect location for showing it. When Fashion Exclusive (production company) asked me if I wanted to show my new collection here I immediately said yes. The Palm Court is fantastic. The golden details work perfectly together with my collection.”
Sustainability is still on everybody’s lips. Vallenes has an organic basic line and tries to bring as many sustainable fabrics into her collections as possible. To her, it means something that the pieces she creates is wearable for a long time, timeless one can say, without loosing its quality after one season. She also thinks sustainability into her production – every piece is produced in a fully controlled factory in Portugal to minimise the distances to her European market.
“If I could, I would produce all my pieces in organic materials. It feels fantastic and maintains it original form for much longer than non-organic materials. The cotton of my organic basic line is produced of eucalyptus and therefore it’s antibacterial. It does something good to the body.”
One of the remarkable qualities of Veronica B. Vallenes is her ability to combine qualities that will last long with timeless cuts – cuts that do not tighten the body or tries to shape the women in an unnatural way. The pieces simply fall effortlessly and loosely on the body, which make it accessible and attracting to women of all shapes. Combined with well-chosen accessories as simple black high heels and delicate jewellery it is a perfect example of what an ideal wardrobe should look like.
The brand of Veronica B. Vallenes is the essence of elegance and Parisian chic. Does the creative director herself have a general advice she wants to give to most women in today’s society?
“The most important thing to remember is to prioritize good quality.
It is also important to listen to your personality and dress like you want and not follow trends that don’t suit it.”
